THE BELGIAN AGREEMENT FRANCE MUCH INTERESTED* Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, August 19. The nows of the Belgian debt agreement reached London from lYnshingtou too late for comment. The Paris correspondent of the ‘Morning Post’ earlier stated_ that France was watching the 'Washington negotiations ‘ with the most intense interest. She realised that the settlement must have a direct influence on her own problem. France now recognises that neither sentimental nor political arguments will have the least influence on the Americans, who will insist ou treating the debt question with no more idealism than is usual in business relations.—A. and N.Z. Cable. METHOD OF REPAYMENT. AVASIIINGTON, August IS. (Received August 20, at 1.30 a.m.) Belgium will bo allowed a period of sixty-two vears in which to repay the 171.000. dollars loaned during the war. The balance of approximately 246.000. dollars, which was loaned after the armistice, _ will ho repaid in the same period, with interest at 31per cent, after the first ton years. Reuter.
