EXCURSIONISTS PANIC-STRICKEN HEAVY CASUALTY LIST Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright, NEW YORK, August. 18. A telegram from Rhone Island says that three men are missing, a dozen more are in a dangerous condition, and another 100 arc injured as tjio result of an explosion on. the steamer Mankinac, bound from Newport to Pawtucket. The boilers of the vessel, which carried 677 excursionists, burst. Throe of the firemen are missing and are believed to have boon killed. The explosion tore the entire middle section of the boat apart and scalded the passengers and officers who wore near the engine room. The fear of tho crazed crowd became frantic, and many jumped into the water. An unverified report says that five persons are dead. A distress call was sent to all the battleships and destroyers In the harbor. Tho naval hospital, where tho injured were taken, resembled a shambles.—Router. DEATH LIST INCREASING, NEW YORK, August 18. Tho ilea tli list has increased to twenty-three. The physicians at tho naval hospital said that ton more would die before daybreak.—Reuter.
