HEW SOUTH WALES TEAM 'A CIVIC RECEPTION. Yesterday a civic welcome was accorded the New South Wales Rugby footballers at Wellington. The mayor (Mr G. J. B. Norwood) also extended a welcome to the members of the North and South Maori teams who aro to contest the To, Mori Howl. The Mayor expressed extreme pleasure in welcoming a. representative team from the other side of the Tasman Sea. Ho said the cultivation of a reciprocal feeling between the young men of New Zealand and Australia should he encouraged in every possible way. He regretted that no provision had been made for the team ,to play at ■Wellington, but he wished it a pleasant tour in'the dominion and a share in the honors of the field. .Colonel Campbell and councillors also spoke. Mr Harold Baker (manager of the New South Wales team) thanked the speakers for their welcome. Incidentally, lie said, Rugby was almost a religion in Now Zealand. SOUTHLAND v. OTAGO. The representative match between Southland a‘nd Otago will ho played at Carisbrook on Saturday, when a keonlyconteslcd game should he witnessed. The annual match between Canterbury University College and Otago University will bo played on the Caledonian Ground to-morrow afternoon, when a fast, open game should ho witnessed.
