DRUNKENNESS

Two defendants not previously known to the police were fined 10s, in_ default twenty-four hours, and a third was fined 20s. James Carmichael, a. statutory first offender, was fined 10s, and James Plunkett (another statutory first offender) was fined 20s, both in default twenty-four hours, MATXTKXAXCK. Olaf. William Johansen was charged with the disobedience of a maintenance order made in respect to his illegitimate child. Mr Gillies, who appeared for the complainant, said that on Saturday last a child had boon committed to a home, but tire police now wanted to cancel the order and make defendant pay for the child. The defendant had paid £ll, but at the time the. order was made there was £lO 10s owing for past maintenance, and tho same amount for confinement expenses. Ho wanted tho order to protect his client. The defendant said that he earned £ll 3s Sd per mouth. He had a wife and two children. The Magistrate; It’s a pity that you took upon yourself to add to your family in this way. Mr Gillies suggested that an order should bo made to spread over a definite period. He suggested that he might pay £4 per month.
