THE MARRIAGE LAW

EHOLISH WIFE AND RUMANIAN HUSBAND

Frees Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. o

LONDON, July 29

(Received July 30, fit 11.55 a.m.)

The Rev. Aaron fiuffrin, Anglican vicar of Waterloovillc, near Portsmouth, was the central figure in a strange nullity suit. SufTrin is a Rumanian Jew, who was converted to Christianity in 1905. His English wife, whom he married in 1906, alleges that SufTrin has a wife still living in Rumania, whom he married in 1872', when he was eighteen years of age. The legitimacy of the three children of the English marriage is at stake. SufTrin gave evidence that his five brothers-in-Taw forced him into the first marriage to prevent him joining the Greek Church; but he was divorced in 1874 under the Jewish law, though this is without effect in Rumania. Suffrin admitted describing himself as a widower at the time of Tns remarriage, as ho regarded a divorced man mid widower as synonymous terms. The wife was not told the facts until 1912. Tile hearing was adjourned to enable the production of evidence regarding the Rumanian law.—A. and N‘.Z. Cable.
