CSVERHOS-CENERAL OPENS CONFERENCE [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, July 28. The tweoTy-fonrth annual dominion conference oi' the New Zealand Fanners’ Union commenced this morning, Mr W. Poison presiding over a large attendance of delegates from all over the dominion. At the outset a resolution was passed lamenting the country’s loss through the death of Mr Massey.

The Governor-General opened the conference with an address, in _ which he alluded to the patriotic action of the New Zealand Fanners’ Union during the war, and said that if we were to do our duty to the Old Country we must recognise that we would have to absorb some of its surplus population. Mr Poison’s presidential address was then delivered.
