HARRIERS
CAVERSHAM. The Caversham Harriers made the George Street School their base for today’s run. C. Frye and Heruni set the trail up the steps on to the Pino Hill road over the crest of Pine Hill, and connected with the Waitati road. This was followed to above Bethune’s Gully, into which the parks made a steep ana rugged descent, spills being frequent. When the low road was reached the run home commenced. From the Norma nhy terminus the good road enabled the pace to he quickened. Henderson arrived first, with Stewart and Hetherington close up. LEITH. Leith held a run from Momington School. The trail laid by Fraser and Clarke was followed from Moniin"Uui down the hill to the Kaikorai Valley road. After keeping to the road for about a quarter of a mile the trail struck over the hills on the far side of the Valley. The hills were very greasy, and resulted in a. good many .spills. The trail then led round past tlie Southern Reservoir and down into Green Island. Here the pack divided into two, and the High road was followed back to the school. W. Buchanan, A. Ellis, and K. Watson were first to arrive home. ST. KTLDA. The St. Kilda Harriers held their four-mile championship and sealed handicap from Wesley Hall, there being eighteen competitors. The race started at the junction of High street and Queen’s Drive, led up the drive along Victoria road to St. Clair, round the Esplanade, and back Victoria road to the end of Moreau street; then down Lover's lane and across the sandhills before reaching Taimna Park; on to Victoria road again, down Tainui road, and up Bowen street to the drive. The results wore: J. Dunn (22min Usee) 1, A. Williams (22min 12sec) 2, and T. Dove 3. A sealed handicap was run in conjunction with this race, resulting as follows: —D. Skeen, C. M'Crono, and A. Eolej’. Following are the teams selected to represent the club in the five-mile Otago championship on August I: —A team: A. Williams (captain), J. Dunn, A. Foley, C. Wills, D. Skeen, and C. M'Crone. B team: R. Mercer (captain), A, Brown, C. Tilcy, W. Foley, W. Steffans, and E. Ken. CARGILL ROAD METHODIST. Cargill Road' Methodist held their run from the St. Clair Baths. A good trail was laid by L. Hunt and W. Grey. From the baths it led to Forbury Park, round part of the championship course, and on to Tahuna. From there it led ah,mg the beach, over Lawyer Head, along Tomahawk Beach, and on to the wad home. From Taimna Park the
pack divided into a fast and, a slow one, the slow pack going over via Lover’s lane, and the fast pack via the road. The fast pack maintained a fast pace all the way, and arrived homo well before the slow pack. The following team has been chosen to represent the club at the Otago championship on Saturday next:—A. Barron, C. Dawson, R. Graves, T. King, M. MTndoe, and B. Pearce; emergency, N. Blackburn. CIVIL SERVICE. This club ran from Mornington School, under the whistle of Captain E. L. Brown. Dispensing with paper, the pack ran down the Mill road into the Kaikorai Valley, then cross-coun-try to the top of Mount Grand, where the members indulged in a snowball match. Carrying on, the pack traversed some ideal harrier country to the Southern Reservoir, thence down through (Burnside, then up the hill into Mornington. A fast run home along Kenmnre road resulted in M'Kernan being first home, closely followed by Stevens and Brown, inn. The club then adjourned to the Savoy, where they were entertained by their patron, Mr S. P. Whitcombe. The following team will represent the club in the five-mile championship :—E. L. Brown, M. Harvey, Stevens, Louie, M'Kernan, and Brown. PACIFIC. Pacific held their weekly run from Mornington School. Paper was dispensed with, and the pack, under the whistles of Captain J. Grey and Deputy F. Mowat, left the school, turned along Kenmuir road, down the Mill road into the Kaikorai Valley, then up to the top of Mount Grand under a heavy shower of snowballs from the members in front. From Mount Grand the pack ran across country to Abbotsford road, which was followed down to the water race, round which a good run was obtained, till the reservoir was reached. From here the trail struck across the paddocks to the Valley, then up the hill to Mornington. In n fast run home along the top of the hill several of the younger members showed prominently. ANGLICAN Anglican ran from Mornington School. ’Paper was dispensed with, and! the runners divided into two packs, the fast pack, under Captain Rolfe, having a good run over the slopes of Mount Grand, and returning by Brockville township. In the run homo Gray, Ashby, and Henderson finished in that order. The slow pack lost itself on the gorso slopes of Mount Grand, and returned home some time after the fast pack, considerably the -worse for wear. After the run the_ members spent a most enjoyable evening as the guests of Mr and Mrs H. W. Reid. The following have been selected to represent the chib in the cross-country championship:—No. 1 team; Pollock, Ashbv, Rolfe, Henderson, Gray, and Connell. N° 2 team: Provo, Burton, Green, A ’one, Moodie, and Smith.
