(Tlccoivcfl July 21, at 1.5 p.m.) At Dayton Mr Darrow was cited for contempt of court by Judge Eaulston, who, at the opening of the court to-day, charged Mr Darrow with showing contempt and adopting an insulting manner on Friday during a heated exchange over the introduction of scientific, evidence, in which lie virtually defied Judge Eaulston, and questioned his impartiality. The penalty is fine or imprisonment, and there is no appeal from the judge's decision in such a case. Mr .Harrow, under a 5,000-dollar bond, is required to answer the citation tomorrow. Tho affidavits of nine prominent scientists, educators, and clergymen, who intended to give testimony for the defence, were not read, hnt wore entered in the court record.' 'I he defence lias already prepared an appeal from tho verdict of guilty which is expected to ho given to-morrow.—A. and N.Z. Cable. (Received July 21, at 1.35 p.m.) Mr Darrow apologised to the judge, who shook hands with him and dismissed the contempt charge. The judge then ordered the court room to bo emptied owing to danger of its collapse, cracks having opened in tho coiling and the floor of the court room and tho showing signs of giving way. The trial then proceeded on the lawn, the judge and counsel occupying a platform erected for the evangelists.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
