(Received June ‘29, at 12.20 p.m.) Seven thousand people this afternoon, including a procession of clergy. Boy Scouts, and friendly societies, assembled at L’unnymedo to ccmmomorato the signing of the Magna Charta. Speeches wore made by Bishop J, If. Darlington (New York), and Sir Joseph Cook (High Commissioner for Australia), after which the whole assembly in unison said;-—“ Wo praise thee, 0 God, for tlio great deed 700 years ago, whereby the laws and liberties of this realm were defended against tyranny, ami victory was won for freedom and justice.”—-A. and NZ. Cable. [Runnymede, a meadow on the Thames, . near Staines, Surrey. _is celebrated as the spot on which King John was forced by the barons to sign Magna Charta in 1215. This historic ground is now the property of the nation.]
