CHARGED WITH PIRACY
FIFTY LAWYERS FOR THE DEFENCE s PLEA OP PATRIOTIC FURY. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. TOKIO, January 28. (Received January 29, at 12.10 p.m.) The trial is proceeding of Ezure, an alleged Japanese pirate, and hi.s crew, on a. charge of scuttling two Russian ships in Siberian waters three years ago, and massacring the crews. Fifty lawyers are appearing for the defence, the leader of whom claimed that Ezure fired at the ships in patriotic fury at the memory of tho notorious Nikolnievsk massacre by the Russians. Ezure killed only twenty men, and secured 50,000 yen as booty, which was insignificant, compared with 700 faithful Japanese who were slaughtered and the many million yen involved in tho Nikolaievsk massacre.—Sydney ‘ Sun ’ Cable.
