Sir Robert Stout (Chief Justice) arrived last night from Christchurch. He is staying at Albert House, 6t. Clair. Mr W. Hagger (Conciliation Commissioner) left for Christchurch this morning. At last night’s meeting of the City Council the mayor (Mr H. L. Taplay) welcomed back to the council table Cr Mitchell, who recently returned from a trip to the Old Country. At a special meeting of the Port Chalmers District High School Committee Miss Georgina Agnes' Downes was recommended for appointment, to the position of eighth assistant. Colonel X. S. Falla, C.M.G., D. 5.0., of Wellington, and formerly of Dunedin, has been appointed honorary aide-de-camp to the Governor-General. Colonel Falla served with the X.Z.F.A. in Gallipoli, Egypt, and France, 1914-1919; tho Mayor (Mr H. L. Tapley) referred at last night’s meeting of the City Council to tho tragic death recently of Father Marlow, who was a son of Mr J. J. Marlow, an ex-councillor. A motion of sympathy with Mr and Mrs Marlow and family was passed. Visiting Dunedin just now is Mr J. \ • Wilson, who is on the staff of Sir isne Drummond (secretary-general of the League of Nations), to whom he is personal assistant. Air Wilson was born in Christchurch, and was educated there at the High School and at Canterbury College. He served in the Second Canterbury Battalion with the Now Zealand Expeditionary Force, and at tho end of the war he went to Cambridge, where he took a degree in classics. As the result of an open examination in Loudon in November, 1921, Mr Wilson was offered a post on tlie staff of the International Labor Oltice of the League of Nations, and he was subsequently transferred to the secretariat of the League of Nations. Since January, 1924, he has been on the personal staff of Fir Eric Drummond. Air Wilson attended last night's meeting of the Dunedin branch of tho League of Nations Union, and held a- discussion there on questions of organisation and propaganda.
