The Komona, was to have left Avestport on Saturday for Bluff and Dunedin. She loads here 'for Westport and Greymouth. The Flora sails to-night or to-morrow morning for Napier and Gisborne via ports, The Katoa conics up to Dunedin from Port Chalmers on Wednesday, and sails the same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. One of the three new motor ships now being built in England for the Commonwealth and Dominion Line is to be named Port Dunedin. The vessel is expected to bo launched early this year, and will be employed in the trade between the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia. The Kaitoke, which arrived yesterday from Port Stephens via Blulf, goes to Port Chalmers for survey on completion of discharge of her timber earns*

THE FERRY SERVICE. The Maori, from Wellington, arrived at ■Lyttelton at 6.55 a.m. yesterday, and passengers and mails came south to-day. DORSET FROM LIVERPOOL. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. advise that the Dorset left Auckland early on Saturday morning for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin to continue discharging Liverpool cargo. The vessel is due hero about January 20. CARGO FROM BUNBURY. The Sydic, at present discharging Bunbirry cargo at Auckland, is now expected to reach Wellington at the end of this week. The vessel will later visit Lyttelton and Dunedin. THE PORT MELBOURNE. The 0. and D. Lino advises that the Port Melbourne is due at Port Chalmers on January 16 from Liverpool via Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton to discharge the remainder of her Home cargo and commence loading. She will sail a few days later for Bluff, Lyttelton, Gisborne, and Wellington to complete loading, and will bo despatched from the lastnamed port early in February for 1/m----don via Montevideo. FIB ST JAPANESE-BUILT MOTOR SHIP. The first large motor ship built in Japan for Japanese owners lias just been completed. This is the Akagisan Mam, which has been built by the Mitsui Bussan Kaisha, Ltd. (Mitsui and Co., Ltd.), the their own yard. The length ib.p. is 575 ft, the beam 50ft. flic depth 50ft, and the draught 24ft. 6in, the dead-weight capacity being 7,300 tons. The machinery has been supplied by Eurmeister and Wain, the propelling plant being a sixcylinder long-stroke engine of 1,800 to 2,000 b.h.p., with cylinders 740 mm. bore and 1,500 mm. stroke. It is designed for a speed of 95 r.p.m. to propel the ship 10J knots when fully laden, On trials a speed of 12 knots was attained. Electrical auxiliaries are employed, and three Diesel engines of 75 h.p. are installed, being direct-coupled to generators of 50 kw., as well as manoeuvring compressors. There are eleven electrically operated winches, and the windlass and steering gear are of the electric type. The fuel consumption is 7 i tons per day of twenty-four hours for all purposes. A sister vessel is under construction, and as the first ollenginod ship built in Japan (also the first Japanese-owned motor ship of large size) (he Akagisan Maru has attracted a great deal of attention. She recently completed her maiden voyage to America in a highly satisfactory manner. THE CANADIAN CRUISER. The Canadian Cruiser loft Adelaide on Wednesday for Dunedin, where she is due on January 15. From here she will proceed to Lyttelton and Wellington, arriving there on January 22. She is expected to'sail on January 24 for Wanganui, Lapier, and Auckland, and will clear the last-named port on February 3 for Now York, Boston, and Halifax. THE R.M.S. AORANGI. The Union Company advises that the Royal Mail steamer Aorangi, now on her maiden voyage to New Zealand, is due at Kingston, Jamaica, on Wednesday. RUAHINE’S DEPARTURE POSTPONED. A postponement in the departure of the liner Ruahine lias been announced by the New Zealand Shipping Company, according to which the vessel is now scheduled to sail from Wellington for Southampton on January 15, instead of the 13th, for Southampton and London.
