MONTHLY MEETING, The monthly meeting of the Otago Education Board'was held to-day; present—the chairman (Mr .1. Wallace), Messrs J. 11. Wilkinson, J. Horn, M.P., lion. it. T. Fleming, L. Sanderson, 11. H. Todd, (1. W. Wood, G. K. Graham, J. Smith, and G. Livingstone. SECONDARY CLASHES. The Mosgiol Committee’s application for (ho re-establishment of secondary classes at the school was considered. The commit tea forwarded nine additional guarantees from parents promising to send their children to the classes if re-established. It was stated that, owing to the proximity of Mosgiel to Dunedin, it would be as convenient for the pupils to attend the High School in Dunedin as to attend a, district high school in Mosgiel.—Mr Fleming said that tiro Mosgiel people had so far complied with the requirements of (he Act, and ho moved that the board recommend the establishment of secondary classes at Mosgiel, and (he appointment of a secondare teacher, with a view to establishing a district high school later if the results justilied this step. This was the course followed in the cases of Owaka and Cromwell. —The motion was carried. , KAIKORAI SCHOOL. In regard to the Kaikorai Committee’s application for the removal of trees and the erection of a concrete wall with a sft paling fence on top, it was decided that the question of a wall and fence on the upper part of the school boundary be a "reed to; that the further matter of a high fence for fives playing be referred to (he School Committee to see what it is prepared to do; and the residents fronting iho lower portion of the boundary he asked what assistance they can give in the matter of the erection of a new fence. GENERAL. The, board decided to agree to the Hooper Inlet Committee’s request for a new tank. The matter of the committee’s request for a, piano was left in the hands of the chairman. The. Ranfurly Committee, renewed its application for the removal of (he school to the new site, and the ma.king of provision for an increasing number of pupils, the roll number being ninety-one —lt was decided to inform the department of the facts of the case. An application for altering the buildings at Balclutha, to allow for the greater number of secondary pupils nest year was sent on to the department with an application for a grant. The, Committee of Management of the Educational Institute wrote expressing appreciation of the board’s attitude throughout the year in steadfastly refusing various requests for additional essay competitions in the public schools.—Received. In regard to the hot-water systems of existing 'schools, the department wrote intimating that it could not do more than give assistance towards existing systems of heating.
