SWEETNESS OF TOWN LIFE

COUNTRY CORRESPONDENT'S COMPLAINT. “JUMPING INTO FLASH CARS.” The writer of a letter considered at this morning's meeting of the Education Board evidently considers that town life is “all beer and skittles.” He wrote from Maheno making application for a riding allowance for his children. “ With reference to my application for a riding allowance, in the first place,” he said, “ I wouldn’t let my children drive on this road in its present state for Is a day for each child. What does men in tile city know .of what we have to put up with. They are in an office for about two hours a day, and then jump into a flash car. They don’t know or care how we fare in the country. It would he far cheaper for me if 1 could let my children drive, as I would only need one pony then. 1 am to see what our member in the House, >Air can do, as it seems to mo that tho Education Board doesn’t want to encourage education. There are people who can get the allowance on a road like a bowling green.’ The Secretary (Mr S. M. Park) said that the point was that the writer did not say that the road was impassable for children driven by adults, and that was the condition required by the department before capitation could* be granted. The Chairman (Mr J. Wallace), with a smile : Not one of our city members owns a (lash motor car. (Laughter.) A Member ; Five of the members are from the country. The Hon. D. T. Fleming caused a laugh when he said : “ Two or three of us have flivvers, and one or two have been paid for.” The letter was received.
