QUESTION OF FENCING. DEPUTATION TO OITY COUNCIL. Mr J- 'Sutherland Ross, chairman of directors of the Now Zealand and South i .Sens Exhibition Company, and Mr P. L. Halted, a director, waited upon the meet- ( ing of the City Council last night in rei spect.to the fencing of the Exhibition area at Logan Park. Mr Ross said the question of fencing the Exhibition was essential. They bad thought that if the council was thinking of fencing The area it would he better for tho council to do it' now and save a duplication of expense. A fence of 7ft in height was proposed, tho total area to bo enclosed being 112 chains. Mr Halsted said tho Horticultural Committee was at present setting about preparing flower beds, and if they were not lonccd off ham might bo done by the people visiting the grounds before the Exhibition started. Whether the council bore part of the expense or undertook it all itself, it was desirable that the fences should bo erected early in Die New Year. They asked the council to assist them in connection with tho landscape of tho grand court, part of which might bo made a permanent show for the city. In reply to Cr Begg, Mr Ross said the cost of the proposed fence of 7ft galvanised iron with hardwood posts and redwood rails would bo £2,422. The Mayor (Mr H. L. Taplcyl said the matter would be fully considered. It was ■a matter for the council to decide whether tho area would be fenced or not. They were all out to assist tho Exhibition as far as they could. Tho request of the deputation was referred to the Reserves Committee for a reports
