The Governor-General (Viscount Jellicec) and Viscountess Jellicoo arrived at Wanganui yesterday on a farewell visit. In the afternoon they witnessed the Auck-land-Wanganui Rugby football match, and at night were the guests of the Amateur Dramatic Society at the production of ‘ The Gay Pai-isienne.’ Lord Jellicoe was also entertained at the Cosmopolitan Club. To-day the party attended the races, and to-night Lord Jellicoe will attend a big Masonic function. In the Wellington Competitions Miss S. Aitken (Invercargill) was placed first with 85 marks in the recital with accompaniment (ladies), Miss Anita Winkel (Dunedin) being third with 82 marks. In the recital in character (ladies), Miss Winkel was placed third with 89 marks. Mr M. Hyndman came up from Invercargill this morning. Jlr D. Cuthbertson, of Invercargill, went on to Christchurch to-day. Mr J, F, Robieson loft for Wellington to-day. Four Australian branch managers of the Standard Insurance Company, who came to Dunedin for the annual meeting of the company, left this morning for Australia—viz., Mr L. F. Dowling (Sydney), Mr F. 0. Tattle (Melbourne), Mr F. C. Liggins (Perth), and Mr T. Carmody (Queensland). Mr W. Mart, one of the local directors, resident in Sydney, also started for his home, and has announced his intention of bringing his wife and family to Dunedin to see the Big Exhibition. Those staying at the Grand Hotel are Mr F. L. Yott and Mr and Mrs Rhodes (Melbourne), Mr and Mrs K. M'Clelland and Miss M'Lean (Timaru), and Miss Durham and Mr J. A. Durham (Oamaru).
Among those staying at the Excelsior Hotel are Mr W. E. Robertson (Oamaru), Mr and Mrs W. B. Stewart (Balclutha), Mrs and Miss Deeper, Mr E. Broad, and Mr A. Moffat (Invercargill), Mr H. E. Perry, Mr G. Sledhill, and Mr T. Scott (Christchurch), Mr W. Gill (Sydney), and Air K. Watle (Melbourne).
The list of visitors at the City Hotel includes Mr A. E. Middleton and Mr W. Drayton (Invercargill), Mr and Mrs J. Smith (Greenfield), Mr J. Kain (Wellington), Mr and Mrs S. Bryant (Queenstown), Mr D. ~S. Kemshed (Timaru), Mr J. J. Bourka (Christchurch), Mrs and Miss Nicholl (Oamaru).
In the Wellington Competitions Miss Lorna Smith, of Dunedin, was placed first for the contralto solo by a New Zealand composer, and second in the Irish selection.
Prior to Otago Rugby League team leaving Christchurch on Monday, the members presented Mr T. White (manager) _ and Mr H. Divers (secretary) with a silvermounted pipe each in token of appreciation of their services during the tour. Mr Richard Loudon, whose death was announced by cable message from Sydney, was an ex-resident of Leeston, where for twenty years he was manager of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand (wires our Christchurch correspondent). He joined the bank in 1873, and was appointed manager at Leeston, in 1894. He declined several offers of promotion, and continued his work until 1914, when ho retired Item the bank’s service and settled in Sydney. He was a keen fisherman, and his fishing hut at the mouth of the Rakaia River was one of the first built there. Mr Loudon leaves a widow and three sons—Mr Jade Loudon, Dr Derby Loudon, and Mr Robert Loudon.
