Y.M.C.A. DIRECTORS

The monthly meeting of directors of the Y.M.C.A. was held last night. The financial statement showed that the receipts for the month were £555 17s 7d, and the expenditure £4BO 17s lid. The overdraft to July 31 was stated to bo £1,007 8s 4cl, an improvement of £l4B 3s 9d on the year to date. ■ The general reports mentioned the “ Y ” Luncheon Club fulfilling a definite service with young business men, social gatherings of various kinds, religious work among younger men, residents, and others, foreign work contributions being £7 4s lid for the month. The physical report outlined the numerous classes with a total enrolment of 550. basket ball. Association, Rugby, the baths, and other activities, and mentioned the preparation which had been made to make a success of the largo display iri His Majesty’s Theatre this week-end. The Big Brother Committee reported over twenty boys on'probation being provided with a big brother, and the encouraging results of tho work to date. Some remarkable statistics were contained in tho boys’ division report. The membership now totalled 402. Nineteen clubs, with an enrolment of 289 and an average attendance' of 213, were conducted. The following statistics were gathered in the month's club work :—Among employed boys, 37 per cent, attended church, 26 per cent. Bible class, 28 per cent, gymnasium, and 46 per cent, took part in sports. The secondary school boys’ averages were : —Church attendance, 52 per cent.; Sunday School, 52 per cent.; gymnasium, 52 per cent.; sports, 46 per cent. Of the primary school boys 59 per cent, took part in church attendance, 69 per cent. Sunday school, 40 per cent, gymnasium, and 66 per cent, took part- in sport; and of the Newsboys’ Club 34 per cent, took part in church attendance, 46 per cent. Sunday school, 20 per cent, gymnasium, and 50 per cent, sport. The board expressed approval of the programme of work being carried out, and emphasised the need oi additional sustaining and senior membership.
