The gonrlolieis in Venice made *sa angry demonstration against the. action of the authorities in allowing motor launches to plav on the canals. The gondoliers surrounded the "motor stations, preventing the boats from moving. They also wrecked a landing stage. Subsequently 300 gondoliers went in pro cession up the Grand Canal to the Town Hall, where an enormous crowd shouted ; “Down with the motor boatsJ” —A. and N.Z. Cable.
