ENTOMOLOGIST’S REPORT ADVERSE TO WHITE PINE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Press Association. SYDNEY, Juno 24. (Received June 24, at 10.10 a.m.) Mr Eroggart, Government Forest Entomologist., in an official report on timber pests, recommends that the importation of New Zealand white pine, should be prohibited, and its use for building purposes discontinued, on the ground that it is said to be badly infested with the larvtc of the European furniture beetle- He. warns the public against wasting money on some of the reputed peat remedie.s now being offered.

Mr Proggart says, regarding hardwood, except whore sap wood has been used, that thoro is little or no danger of serious damage from tho powder pest beetle. Ho recommends tho application of a mixture, of kerosene and crude creosote, and considers that with ordinary precaution there is little danger of foreign timber bore.es gain ing a foothold in the Australian forests.
