TURNING THE FIRST SOD
OPSHIIIG OF EXinSOTOSL At yesterday’s meeting of the directors of the hi:; Exhibition proposal were submitted and approved in connection with the ceremony of turning the first sod, to bo held on Saturday. The procession will leave Anzac square ■e ~h p.m., and the order will bo as follows : I,'uuudin Highland Pipe .Band, cars with directors, members of City Council, Otago Harbor Board, and other public bodies; lorries illustrative of the objects of the Exhibition, various bands, and dec irated motor cars. The Boy .Scouts will form an escort, and will march on rciiv.i 1 ;to hi the proc'c:--inn. The Jerries will carry much of the material that k to be used in the construction of the building. At i.-oean Parle the proceedings will be ripened with a rolci-tiou by the Highland Ripe, Baud. The president (1.3 r .1. Futhsrland iloss) will then extend a welcome to the visitors. The chairman of the Otago Harbor Board, .Mr D. Larnach, will then hand over the ground, ami the mayor (Mr fl. L. Taplcy) will deliver an address. Prayers will bo offered by the Rev. Dr Cameron, and at the eoiuduruon of this Mr J. Sutherland Ross will turn the first sod. A presentation of a spade and casket will also be made. Tire ceremony of “ breaking ” the flag of all nations will conclude the actual function, and afternoon lea will then he dispensed. During the afternoon several baud selections will be rendered.
