(Received June 23. at 11.30 a.m.) A wireless message has been received by tho American Legation from Wan-hsicn confirming the death of Mr Hawley following a dispute with junk men. Tho message states that tho commander of the British gunboat Cockchafer, acting with commendable vigor and promptitude, under a threat of bombarding the. city, compelled the loading military authorities to follow Mr Hawley s cortege afoot to tho grave; also to execute two of the principal junk men. [A previous message stated : Advices from Wan-hsicn state that an American named Hawley, manager for Messrs Arnold and Co.,"<>f Shanghai, wan killed by junk men, who arc agitating against steamers on tho ground that they are taking away their living.]
