Tho Federal Public Service Board has fixed the classification and salaries of officers in mail branches for the Commonwealth. ■ Tho maximum salaries of superintendents range from £612 at Perth to £876 at Sydney; assistant superintendents, £4BO to £635; supervisors, £384 to £6OO.
The classification provides for an annual review of the scale of salaries. The hoard decided that the Commonwealth Statistician's figures regarding the cost of living should be taken into consideration on April 1 of each year, and where the index number exceeds a gi von limit or is below a staled figure the salaries shall be increased or decreased accordingly, flight of appeal is provided for, STATE BOUSING ABANDONED. SYDNEY, Juno 2L A Bill providing for the abolition cf the State housing scheme and the Housing Department, has been prepared by the Minister of Local Government (Mr A. Brunt ndi), and will be introduced next session. TIMBER YARD DESTROYED. MELBOURNE, June 23. (Received Juno 23, at 9.55'a.m.) Oarlick’s timber mill at Powelltown was completely destroyed by fire. The damage is estimated at £IO,OOO.
