Discussing the suggested Appointment of an Irish Free Stale Minister at Washing" ton, ‘ The Times ’ says that whatever the decision of the Government, the question is bound to excite interest in the dominions. Canada is natural IF very closely, concerned about separate representation at Washington, and the subject has long been one of constant controversy in the Canadian -Parliament. The Canadian Government, having secured the right of separate representation, has been reluctant to take advantage of it, however; 'but there can be no doubt thu3? if an Irish Minister is appointed public opinion in Canada may force, the Ministers there to appoint a' Canadian, Minister.
Australia lias always been strongly opposed to Uie appointment of a diplomatic representative at Washington. Nevertheless, if the Irish Free State and Canada both claimed (bo right of separate representation it would not. he .long heloro a section of Australian opinion would pres? for eirnal privileges.
