VALLEY SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The first meeting of the now committee of the North-east Valley School was held last evening, Mr J. J. Bardsley in the chair. The chairman welcomed Mr J. Laing to the committee. All the old members were reappointed with the exception of one.

It was decided that a letter of sympathy be sent to Mr J. Elliot on his recent motoring accident. The following motion was carried, members standing“ That the committee places on record its regret at the death of Mr George GaJder, who, for fifty years, was a member of this committee, and that a letter of sympathy ho sent to his relatives.”

Miss Stella Bayley sent in her resignation as assistant, and it was decided that a letter of appreciation be sent her for her sendees to the school. Miss Bayley will be greatly missed in connection with the forthcoming school concert. It was decided that the committee support the New Zealand Educational Institute in the matter of the capitation allowance to school committees being_ based on the average roll of the school, instead of on the average attendance. The following sub-committees wore appointed : —Library—Mr S. Little(convouer), Mrs G. B. Elliot, Mrs Peart, Messrs J. Reekie and J. Elliot; band—Mr J. Elliot (convener), Mrs Q. B. Elliot, Messrs Manson, Little, and Laing; works—Mr G. Manson (convener), Mrs Peart, Messrs Little, Laing, and Begg: sports and entertainment—Mrs G. B. Elliot, Mrs Peart, Messrs Laing, Little, and Manson; delegates to School Committees’ Association— Messrs J. Elliot and J. Bardsloy, Mrs Peart.

The Visiting Committee reported that Mr Jones was making good progress with the rockery in front of the infant school, and that good results could bo looked for in the near future.

The midwinter holidays will commence on Juno 2 and finish on Juno 16.
