The Hon. W. Dowmie Stewart will arrive on Saturday from Wellington, and spend a week hero.

The Earl and Countess of Harrowby, who entertained a' largo number of New Zealanders during the war yeare_ in London, intend paying a visit to Now Zealand.

Among those staying at tire Grand Hotel are Mr Howard James (Christchurch), Mr L. DPCartnoy (Auckland), Mr and Mrs Frank Peter (Mount Somers), Mr G. E. Gansten (Montreal), Mrs E. A. Attenborough (London), and Mr H. L. Young (Palmerston North). Mrs M‘Leod, who has resigned her position as postmistress of Wedderbnm, was met recently by a number of residents and presented with a, well-filled envelope in recognition of the manner in which she had carreid out her duties while postmistress.

Staying at the .Excelsior Hotel are Mr W. Sinclair (Wellington), Mr M. 0. Boyle (Christchurch), Mr L. W. Giloert (Wellington), and Mr A. Martin (Christchurch). Mr E. R. Wilson (Invercargill), Dir W. Robinson (Sydney), Mrs E. M. Lawiie (Wellington), Dire F. Peyton (Wellington), Mrs W. Hunter (Hamilton), Mr E. Biss (Wellington), and Dir G. W. Winchester (Sydney) are staying at the Oban Hotel.

Tho Earl of Warwick, whose death was announced yesterday, was tho fifth earl, and was seventy years of age. He represented East Somersetshire in Parliament from 1879 to 1885, and Colchester from 1888 (o 1892. He .also took an active part in the municipal politics of Warwick, being mayor on three occasions. A prominent Mason, ho was a Past Deputy Grand Dfaster of tho Freemasons of England. His widow, the well-known social worker, was granddaughter and heiress of tho late Viscount Dlavnnrd. The late earl will be succeeded by his oldest son, Lord Brooke, who was born ta 1882. Admiral Sir Percy Scott, who recently underwent a r ericas operation at Malta, is reported to bo convalescent.
