CRICKET. THREATENED TROUBLE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. SYDNEY, January 15. The news has just leaked out of threatened serious trouble between tho Sheffield Shield cricket teams and the Cricket Association. It appears that when the players retired to tho dressing room at the tea adjournment on Friday there were no refreshments. They waited for 10 minutes, and then Collins sent for Mr Tyler,'' the treasurer of the association, who went to the dressing room. Angry words followed, and on Saturday Collins received a letter calling on him to appear before the executive of the association on Thursday next to show cause why ho should not be dealt with. The players then held a meeting and decided that if Collins were suspended for any period whatever they would refuse to play against Victoria in the next Sheffield Shield match. SOCCER. VISITS FROM OVERSEAS TEAMS. Following the receipt of a cablegram from the English Football Association, Mr B. L. Salmon, secretary of the New Zealand Football Association, announces that the council will now go on with tho Cana dian and possibly a Chinese touring team for this year, paving the way to a bag success with the English team in 1925. Only 4 last week the council cabled to England agreeing to leave the dates in the hands of the English Football Association, but asked for an immediate and definite answei as the public were keenly awaiting definite news. “ The opinion of tho New Zealand Council,” said Mr Salmon, “is that it will be better to wait till 1925 and have a" firstclass team than to press for a team this year and to get only a moderate one. The public will possibly be disappointed that a team is not coming this year, but we have now got a definite statement. There is ample time to got the arrangements well in hand. Tho guarantee asked from the affiliated associations for an English tour can he reduced 25 per cent, for the Canadian and the Chinese tours.” SWIMMING. NEW CHAMPIONSHIPS. Entries for tho New Zealand swimming championships at Wanganui are coming in very satisfactorily so far. The nominations for the swimming do not include the Annette Kellorman Cup or the surf or polo competition. Tho entries to hand ni e-. Auckland 86, Otago 49, South Auckland 5, South Canterbury 7, Hawko’s Bay 24, Taranaki 10. When the Canterbury, Wellington, and Wanganui entries ara complete it is believed that the iceting will bo one of the largest yet held in 11 e dominion.
