COLUMBA COLLEGE
PUPILS’ WOUK EXHIBITED. Tho exhibition of work at Columba College yesterday afforded striking proof of tli o wide range taught at, the college, and of tho exportnoss of tho instruction given. In one room there was displayed the fancy work, leather work, and marquetry work taught by Mrs Bennett, and the pewter work taught by Miss Bennett. The exhibit gave evidence of considerable artistic skill, the articles including leather-covered stools, pewter clocks and candlesticks, fire screens, caskets, photo frames,, leather purses, bags, and slippers, trays, boxes, bowls in marquetry and pewter ware. The work" of the junior scholars . included pencil drawings of shells, vases, and hats, and a number of original Christ runs cards. In another room was the plain and fancy sewing taught_ by Miss Bonnott. The work of tho painting class afforded a highly interesting exhibit. Tho work of this class was carried on for llm first few months of the year by Miss M/Leod, and_ later, when she was hud aside by illness, it was undertaken with signal success by Miss U- M’eadowcroCt, one of her pupils. Tho drawings and paintings gave evidence of careful study of tho
art. Miss Ross's geography class had on view some neat mapping, and in. the typewriting awni Mr_W. C. Walkers pupils had an interesting display. The dressmaking class presented some good, ■work, and tire kindergarteners had on view exhibits of plastieeno modelling, paper tearing and pasting, woollen balls, etc. Perhaps the most_ remarkable section of the whole display wns_ a. collection of original fairy stories written and illustrated by tho girls themselves. This_ year’s work was away being examined yesterday, but last year’s stories were to bo seen in the office of llso lady principal. Miss F. ,j. Ross. The story matter, of course, differs a great deal; but all of tho little books were well worth studying. Many of the cover designs and illustrations wore beautifully done. In tho kindergarten mom dainty refreshments (the work of tho cookery class) were served by the girls.
