AUCKLAND, July 25.

hi the Supreme Court Mr Justice Herdl- - sentenced a youth attuned 1 Ernest James Hannaut, for the theft of cheques and money totalling £3OO (including £35 cash) to three years’ probation. Ho expressed regret that tho law did. not allow him to order a birching by the police. Houry Howard M’Carthy, for failing to account for money belonging to the Tamranga Hospital Hoard and for theft and forgery, was sentenced to two years’ reformative t rcaimcnt.

Darcy Robert M’Davill was .sentenced to three years’ hard labor, and George Henry Newton was admitted to two years’ probation for breaking mid entering and theft at Taumnrnmii.

Walter Frank Goodall, for forgery at Foilding, was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment at the termination of his present sentence. Albert Salt (indecent assault on a young female) received two years’ imprisonment. Frederick Thomas Kelly May (breaking and entering and theft and_ forgery and uttering), who is already serving a sonicnc* of eighteen, months’ imprisonfflont (or breaking bis probation, was let off witbou. a further penalty.
