ORPHANS’ CLUB

Bro. Canon Nevill presided over the meeting of the Lnnodin Orphans’ Club last night, when there was a good attendance of members and visitors, the tatter including members of kindred clubs in Christchurch, Thnaru, and Wellington. The chairman's introductory remarks wore of a characteristically bright nature, and the inevitable humorous story was embraced in them. The programme as arranged was considerably interfered with by the prevailing sickness, but, as matters turned out, the entertainment provided was well up to the standard. The Club Orchestra, under Bro. Borrow, was in good form, and contributed four items. Another feature was the second appearance of the Orphans' Bellringers, who again displayed a good deal of musical skill. Others who took part were Bros. A. Moore, A. Sligo, S. G. Angell, R. k. Bryant, and Carter (songs), J. B. M'Connell, Allan Young (recitations), I). Whelan (tenor horn solo), T. J. O’Connor (of South Canterbury Savages, clarionet, solo). The chairman announced that, the South Canterbury Savages would visit the club on August 25, and the Christchurch Savages would be hero on September 15. “ Hard-up ” night, he said, would be held shortly, and he urged members to prepare their costumes for the occasion.
