THE EXHIBITION.

TO TIIE EDITOR.

Sir, —When I sent you my letter of tho 21st I did not anticipate that you would notice it in your leading column, but I shall be pleased if what 1 wrote may servo to hasten on the work of this great undertaking. kiix months have passed, and that is a big slice out of tho time, available for building, let alone tho necessary preparation and preliminaries. l‘ notice £30,000 has I icon promised; the dilllculty will bo with the balance, which may* take, some gutting, and it seems to mo that until the fpicstion of international versus Imperial is settled the division may cause slackness. I would like to stress tin’s point: Next year we are to bold a big Umpire Exhibition in London, ami all the world is being invited to come and see what we as a nation can do; without doubt it will bo a. sight worth seeing. Is it reasonable to expect much enthusiasm about a similar though inferior attraction in far-away Xe\v Zealand in tho following year?_ I am afraid not. An international exhibition will bo assured of the Empire support, plus tho attractions provided by the wider appeal of the world at large. My point of view may not appeal to everyone, but ns a business man there is just a feeling in my mind that, taking all the circumstances into consideration, tho decision may lie between international exhibition and abandonment.—l am, etc., F OR WARD. July 24.
