COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS’ APPEAL.

TO THE EDITOH. Sir,—l quite agree with “Interested's” remarks regarding the proportion of tho money from this appeal to be given to Ensign Coombs, of (ho Salvation Army, She is to receive 60 per cent, of tho “Big Day” takings, to do exactly what she likes with for the benefit of the* needv, no questions being asked as to whom she is helping and whether any over-lappiiw with other workers is occurring. The other 40 per cent, is to be given to the mayor as a central fund for (be use of all the other jocial w'orkers of this city, and an exact statement of every case has to be sent in. It is an insult to our noble band of social w'orkers, some of whom have toiled for many years in the interests of tho poor of this city, that such a thing should bo allowed.

The commercial travellers are worthy of this city’s deepest gratitude for the effort they are malting on behalf of the destitute; but surely these level-headed business men wdll see that it would be much fairer and more satisfactory in every way if the whole of the money was banded in to the Town Hall as a central fund, upon which all the social workers, Ensign Coombs included, could operate.—l am, etc,, Citizen. July 21.
