Last Saturday afternoon Mrs Prydo (Clyde street) gave an enjoyable tea parly for'tbe Misses Hutchison, to welcome them back after (heir trip abroad. Tea was served in the dining room, yellow chrysanthemums and asparagus fern being artistically arranged as table decoration. Mrs Pryde, wearing a handsome black satin dress, beaded in jot, received her guests in the drawing room. Miss Pryde wore a pale lemon silk stockinette frock, with bead ornamentation; Miss Hutchison, becoming black cloth braided cloak over a black gown, black and gold toque; Miss B. Hutchison, neat tailor-made black coat and skirt, small toque; Miss Mary Hutchison, ilum colored, costume, smart hat to match. Among those present were Mcsdames Davis, Bowie, Cameron, Hutchison, Walsh, Guthrie, Hislop, Mitchell, Taplcy, Cameron, J. Hislop, Misses Whitson, Duncan, J. Burt, Hislop, C. Graham, W. Hislop. Mrs T. Brown (Broomlauds) left on Tuesday for the North Island, and intends spending a few weeks in Wellington before going on to Auckland. The engagement is announced of Hester, only daughter of Mr and 'Mrs Norman Grant, Inglewood, Khandalla.h, Wellington, to Allan Sawell, M.A., Boys’ High School, Timaru, son of Air and Mrs J. CL Sawell, Mornington, Dunedin.

Mrs J. R. Paterson (St. Clair) is staying with her sister, Mrs R. Finlayson, Rcmucra, Auckland, for a fesv months.

Mr and Mrs Holden and the Misses Holden (England), who have been paying a short visit to New Zealand, loft for tho north last Thursday to join their boat at Auckland on their return trip to the Old Country. Oldham, Black, Garth Callaway, Al'Kibbin, Hilton, O’Neill, Ramsay.

Mrs C. Longuet (Invercargill) is spending a short holiday in Dunedin.

Mrs Matlieson has left for Napier, where sho will spend a few weeks. Mrs Whitson Sherman is visiting friends in South Canterbury. The 'Lyttelton Times’ records tho death of Airs S. J. ' After graduating, at Canterbury College, where she took first-class honors in botany,, she was for a time assistant to Dr Chilton, the present rector, and in 1914 joined the staff of the Dunedin Girls’ High School. After her marriage she was active m tie promotion of various church organisations at Bromley, where) fehe resided. Though of a modest and retiring disposition, she was always to tho fore when any good work was in hand, or when suffering had to be alleviated. The deceased lady served for hree years on the staff of the Girls’ High School here, had a brilliant, scholastic career, and was much liked by her colleagues. Miss Kathleen Ulrich is staying in Timaru with Dr and Mrs Ulrich, in Elizabeth street.

Tiie Rev. Mr Ait-ken and (Mrs Ait-ken (Gisborne) are the guests ,of Dr and Mrs Riley (George street). Miss Hogg (Invercargill) is tho guest of Mrs J. Watson, Park street. ■ Mrs Miens was hostess at a pleasant little farewell tea given for Mrs SheaLawlov, who leaves at tho end of the month for her new homo in Rangiora.
