OVERSEAS CLUB

Tho monthly “ at home ” of the Overseas Club was held in the club room on Thursday evening the chairman of tho executive (Mr J. H. ’Walker) presiding. There was'a large attendance of members. The proceedings opened with the singing of the National Anthem and the creed a* tho Overseas Club, after which Empire message of Their Majesties King George and Queen Mary was given on tho gramophone kindly lent by Mr Benncll (manager of The Bristol). The chairman, in introducing the lecturer of the evening (Dr Marshall Macdonald), eulogised the services rendered by him and Mrs Macdonald during the Great War. Dr Macdonald gave an interesting .and lucid address on the historic chateaux of the Loirs Valley in France, in which so much ot the history of that country was enacted in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. His remarks were illustrated by limelight views of the groat chateaux of “ Blois,” known to readers of Scott and Weynian. He also showed views of the old churches of Rouen. Jn proposing the vote of thanks to Dr Macdonald, Mr Walker said that the members were sincerely thankful to him and appreciated tho help ho gave the club. Musical items were rendered by Miss Edith Morrison (‘ Kiilarney ’) j Miss Smith (musical monologue); Miss Mac(Jallum (‘Home Song). accompaniments were played by Miss E. Morrison. A dainty supper was served, and a dance followed.
