Clarke, two dental surgeons la business at Whangarei, were each fined. £IOO on each of four charges for failing to furnish income tax returns. The defendants had made no returns for seven years, and the Government had been defrauded of a considerable sum, said counsel for the Crown. There was no suggestion that the defendants had endeavored to defraud the Government, but they had failed in their obligations. Counsel for the defence questioned the extent of taxation payable, and added that his clients had paid all other taxes.
