HARRIERS

Tho St. Kilda Harrier Club held its weekly run from tho Glenavon Church. There was a good attendance of mombora, and as tho team for tho Edmond Cup was to be chosen no paper was laid. The pack, under the whistles of Captain M'Donald and Deputy-captain Hitehcox, went up Allen street and over the hills to the Pino Hill School. From there they branched over and down to the old coach road', and thence to Normanby. There was a very brisk run home, in which R. Churchill and D. Gibbs figured prominently. A fair muster ran from tho ’Varsity Harrier Club rooms at Union street. Dispensing with paoor, the pack followed a trail along Pine 'Hill terrace, finally crossing into Bethnne’s Gully. After a brisk run from Normanby tho pack walked through tho Gardens, and then commenced a short sprint home. TV. Thomson and J. E. Paterson were first homo.

The Cargill Road Methodist Harriers held their Maiden Race at St. Clair. Twelve competitors faced the starter, Mr G. Luckhurst. The race was run from St. Glair, along Victoria road past Forhury Park, thence along Plunket street and Forbury crescent till again reaching Victoria road, along which a good straight finish was obtained. The limit men—Hunt, Todd, and M'lndoe at once set off at a, fast pace till Plunket street was reached, where Lee, Blackburn, Chapman, and Adie (scratch) began to close up. On re-entering Victoria road Lee was in the lead, closely followed by Chapman, Todd, and Blackburn, these positions being maintained till the tape was reached. Result Leo (25sec) 1, Chapman (lOsec) 2, Todd (55sec) 3, Blackburn (ssec) 4. Fastest time—Chapman 1, Lee 2. The thanks of the club are duo to tho officials who were responsible for the management of the race. - Twenty-three members of the Dunedin. Anglican Harrier Club took part in Rio run from Ravensbonme School. Iho trail, laid by Gale and Sharp, was followed by the pack under Captain Rolfe and Deputy Bibby up the hill above Rnvensbourno to the trig station, and then along the crest of the liill past Farquharson’s to above Logan’s. Point. 1 rom here the trail turned down the slope of the hill to the southern end of Ravensbourno, and a brisk run home resulted in Horder, Matthews, and Hanson being first home in that order.

Next week all members are requested to be in attendance at 2 p.m. sharp at Esqnilant’s Studio for the annual club photo. After the photo the club two-milo handicap will be held from St. Clair. The following members are requested to train for the Edmond Cup:—Ralfe, Bibby, Sinclair, J. G. Forbes, J. P. Forbes, Paterson, MTvernan, Horder, Henderson, Cun'n.ingham, Mowat, O. Williams, W. E. Williams, Davies, Hamilton, Gillanders, Hanson, M'Millan, Pizey, W. Bird. A. L. Burk,, and Reid. The team will be selected next Saturday. The Pacific Harriers held their weekly run from Mornington School. The paper was in the charge of E. Hunter and L. Oliver. The trail led from the school down into the Kaikorai Valley past the mill, then up over Mount Grand on to the Taicri road at Wakari, from thence down the road to Wingatui, and on to the ■water race, round winch a good run was obtained till the, Kaikorai Valley was reached again. This was followed to the bottom of Barr street, and from there the pack had a fast run homo along Elgin road. L. Henderson, C. M‘JLean. and Esquilant were prominent. Next Saturday the club will hold its two-mile handicap on Forbnry Park. The Civil Service Harness decided their one and a-half mile maiden race at Wingatui to-day. A good field faced the starter (Air A. Melville), who got the Hold away in his usual fine style. C. Wilson, on the limit, set off at a smart pace, .and was closely followed by IT. James and H. C. AVood's, with the rest of the winners well up. J. Liston, on scratch, was running a great race, and gained a lot, of ground. At the end of the mile G. Johnston, 11. C. Woods, and J. Liston came through the rack, and set out after Wilson ; and in a ding-dong sprint up the straight H. C. Woods just managed to beat G. Johnston by Iyd for first place, with J. Liston 6yds away, third, and C. J. Wilson syds away fourth. The rest of tho field were well up. It was an excellently handicapped, race, and reflects credit on the club's handicapper, Mr A. Melville. Time, 9min 28sec, which, although not fast,, was very J creditable considering the heavy state of > tho track. After the race the club, under j Captain F. F. Lister, held their weekly run over tho steeplechase course, and ,'4 | number of the members showed considcr- ) able skill over the hurdles and water I jump. Next Saturday tho club will run as guests of the committee from the Anderson Bay School.

Caversham held their annual Vice-presi-dents’ Three-mile Handicap at Fosbury Park this afternoon. The track was in excellent order, and favored with ideal weather conditions, twenty-three competitors faced the starter (Mr L. Sanderson). The limit men —Grass, Denford, and Heaton—set off at a fast pace, and made the most of their handicap, W. Frye, the scratch man, following some two and a-half minutes later. The, limit men maintained their lead during the first and second rounds, Heaton leading the field. Ho still led in the third lap, with Grass only a few yards behind. Passing the stand the fourth time the back-markers, Frye and Tapp, bad caught the field, and maintained their lead to the finish of the race. The final result was 0. Frye (scr) 1, Tapp (sscc) 2, A. Frye (45secj 3. The winner’s time was 16niin 11 l-ssec. The members were afterwards entertained at lea by Messrs L. Sanderson and J. M. Brown (vice-presidents of the club). St. Patrick’s, a.a guests of the Children of Mary, held-their run from the St. Patrick’s School. The attendance was very satisfactory, twenty-one members having participated in the run. In order to give those members who contemplate mining in the Port- Chalmers Road Race more experience and training, an all-road rente was chosen. The pack, under the whistle of Captain MTlroy, led along Macandrew road, round Anderson Bay road to Talmna. thence along the Tomahawk road to the soldiers’ on the high road, returning via the Highcliff road to Queen’s drive, where a brisk ru i homo ensued, which resulted in Davies and Bradley gaining first and second places. The members _ were then entertained to tea, after which a very enjoyable' evening was held, and Mr M'lirov, on behalf of the club, thanked the ladies for their hospitality. The following members are requested to go into training for the Edmond Gup Messrs Cameron, White, M'llroy, M’Allnu, Davies, M'Elneany, H.
