THE GAS PLANT.

PROPOSED ADDITIONS. Tho Gas Committee reports to tho City Council that the present ammonia concentrating plant at _ the gas\vorks_ is not of sufficient capacity to deal with tho quantity of gas liquor available, and to remedy this it is recommended that tho present plant be duplicated. It is estimated that tho cost of the plant, which can be made locally, _ will be £l5O, and to accommodate this it will bo necessary to extend the boiler house, the cost of tho extension being estimated at £4OO. It is estimated that in the first year’s working of the plant, when duplicated, tho total revenue from this source will bo in tho vicinity of £6OO. It is recommended that a portable oxide disintegrator, complete with motor, be purchased from Messrs Grope and Taylor, Lancashire, for tho price of £254, f.0.b., Liverpool, to deal more effectively with the oxide discharged from the purifier at tho gasworks. Under the present system this work is done by manual labor, and it is estimated that tho saving in labor alone in the first two years will cover tho cost of the machine.
