SLIPS AND WASH-OUTS. The downpour caused considerable apprehension to residents and week-enders at the various harbor bays, .Several heavy slips came down and completely blocked the lower road. Brockman’s store was completely surrounded by water. _ The hall was flooded, the water pouring in the upper end of the building and cascading out the other end and over the road. Those who attended service at the Presbyterian Church yesterday morning had to bo rescued in carts, the rescuers wading up to their waist in tho torrent. Several residents stood in awe for hours, expecting every minute to see their houses swept down the hillside into tho harbor. Fortunately, however, none came to grief, although tho occupiers of houses and cribs spent an anxious day and night. Broad Bay also suffered extensively in tho way qf land slides. Several heavy slips occurred, and one fall of earth which came down near the general store completely blocked the road. The boat sned in the bay was left in a precarious position, as inert of the piles were either loosened or ished away. An occupier of a crib at Macandrew Bay informed a 1 Star ’ reporter that tho bays and a portion of tho harbor were strewn with wreckage last evening and this morning. The wreckage consisted of chairs, tables, timber, and other articles.
