OBITUARY

MR ROBERT FORBES (LYTTELTON). Our Christchurch correspondent wires that the death is announced of Mr Robert Forbes, aged eighty-one, founder of the well-known Lyttelton firm of Forbes, Ltd. Ho landed at Lyttelton in 1861 in a small schooner from the Chatham Islands, having been wrecked there in the barque Sebastopol. He soon started business as Lyttelton as a sailmaker and ship chandler, which eventually grew to a very big concern. Mr Forbes was on transports carrying troops during the Crimean War. One of his sons is Mr G. W, Forbes, M.P.
