Cable. WESTERN THRACE. PLIGHT OF REFUGEES. NAKED AND HUNGRY. LONDON, November 29. The ‘ Daily Express’s ’ Constantinople correspondent states that information has been received that the Turkish population in Western Thrace is rising en masse. It is feared that Turkish extremists are attempting to force the issue to provide Lausanne with an accomplished fact, but there is no confirmation as to the extent of the rising. Apparently there has been fighting between the Greeks and the Turks around Dedeagatch and Karagatch. The Greeks have two re-formed army corps on the western bank of tho Maritza. The plight of the refugees in Western Thrace is terrible. Half a million are starving, half naked and diseased, and hundreds are dying daily from typhus. Roving bands of Greeks, Turks, Bulgars, and Macedonians are causing tremble.—A. and N.Z. Cable. DEMILITARISATION PROPOSALS. LAUSANNE, November 30. (Received December 1, at 9.50 a.in.) The Territorial and Military Commission’s Sub-committee’s report recommended the demilitarisation of Mitylcne, Chios, Samos, and Nicaria, the Turks only dissenting. The Commission holding that this was insufficient, the sub-committee is now considering the complete demilitarisation of Lemnos, Tenedos, and Thrace under the control of the Powers.—A. and N.Z. Cable. RUSSIANS WAITING FOR IN STRUGTIONS. LAUSANNE, November 30. (Received December 1, at 9.60 a.m.) The Russians are waiting Moscow’s reply to the Allied Note refusing to admit Russia to the conference’s whole work.— A. and N.Z. Cable.
