A. meeting of boilermakers, shoot-metal workers, and stovo moulders passed a resolution that they would continue the struggle for the forty-four-bour week. Tho majority of sheet-metal workers and boilermakers in the metropolitan area are idle. When they presented themselves for work to-day the employers demanded a guarantee that they would work a forty-eight-hour week. This the men refused to give, and they wore then told that their services were not required'. November 28. (Received November 28, at 11 a.m.) A section of the Stove Moulders Union declared the strike off, and intend resuming to-day on, tho forty-eight-hour week. Tho union secretary stated that ho intended calling a mass meeting of the union, to consider the position, as tho section referred to wan expected to break away at any tune. TARIFF RECIPROCITY. MELBOURNE, November 28. (Received November 28, at 11.10 a.m.) An agreement has not yet boon reached between Mr Robb (Canada) and the Minister of Customs. Australian, timber interests object to "tariff concessions _ on American hardwood. Mr Robb has little to offer in return, for the concessions, os the balance of trade is greatly in favor of Canada. MR TERtBEUGGHEN’S POSITION. SYDNEY, November 28. (Received November 28, at 11.10 a.m.) Air H. Yerbrugghen communicated with the Conservatorium of Music from the (United States intimating that ho will resign directorship it his position as conductor of the orchestra is not guaranteed. Air Yerbrugghen asked £1,500 for each post. The Government refused tho request.
