ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY

THU MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held! last night, Mr G. W. MTntash presiding. ANGLING- (XfflfflTEE'S REPORT. The Angling Committee recommended that some Blagdon and Scotch Burn ova bo obtained from Scotland; also that, in view of complaints received about poaching and fishing ‘without licenses, am extra ranger be engaged, whose duties shall primarily .be the ranging of the riven*. It was also recommended that perch licenses he increased to £1 next reason, and that permission be granted to the. Bruce Anglers’ Club to shift Alio fish from bahnond’s Creek in the dry season. The committee reported letters from the secretaries of the Waipahi Anglers’ Club and the Clinton Club, intimating that neither of the clubs used 'the society’s hut at the junction of 'the Waipahi and Pomahaia Rivers.—The committee recommended .that an estimate of the value of the but bo obtained. The Secretary of the Clinton Anglers’ Club also wrote to the committee asking that the society’s donation .take the form of. a gold medal..—The committee recommended that a medal he forwarded when the name of the winner was announced. The report was adopted and the recommendation approved of. GAME COMMITTEE'S REPORT. The Game Committee reported letters from the Department of Internal Affairs granting permission to take not more than twelve mallard ducks from Waikouaiti Lagoon, and endosing regulations with respect to .the sale of deer, and copy of warrant which into be issued to persons to kill or destroy deer found on their property; also advising that the Postal Department had no objection to giving to those taking out shooting licenses a •printed list of sanctuaries. The committee recommended that lists of the society's sanctuaries be printed and iseued along with the shooting licenses; also that the offer of the Southland Society to contribute £SO towards cost of importing plover bo referred .to the Finance Committee.

The President said that the £SO referred to in the report was tho total cost, and the Finance Committee had decided to go on with the importation on the confirmation by the Southland Society that the Otago Society’s contribution was £25. The report was adopted and recommendations passed. GENERAL. It was decided to leave over the matter of filling the vacancy on the council, caused by the death of Mr C. S. Jenkins, so as to allow further nominations to bo received.
