Miss E. H. Elliott, of Lovell’s Plat, who has been appointed as a missionary to tho Punjab held of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, leaves for Wellington by to-morrow’s express. Miss Elliott is a fully-qualified nurse, having taken her general and maternity courses. On Saturday the Dunedin staff of Lutterworth Bros, farcwelled Messrs Hutton and Rawlinson, two of the departmental managers, who have left the firm to enter business in their own interests. Presentations were made, and the recipients were wished every success. The Clutha Presbytery has nomintted the Rev, P. 0. Durward, M.A., of Lawrence, as Moderator of the General Assembly for next year. Mr James H. Duncan, manager for Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co., who journeyed to Timaru, Lyttelton, and Wellington last week, returned to Dunedin on Saturday afternoon. , It is expected that Captain J. C. MacLean, who was recently appointed harbor master at the port of Otago, will relinquish 'command of the steamer Kaitokc at Auckland this week. The Kaitoko arrived at the northern port this morning from Newcastle. Captain MacLcan takes up his duties at Dunedin on November 1. Our Parliamentary Reporter telegraphs: The appointment of Judge H. F. Ayson, of the Native Land Court, as Resident Commissioner of the Cook Islands is announced. Judge Avson will succeed Mr Hewitt, S.M., who has filled the position for the past two years. The new Commissioner is a barrister and solicitor, and a son of the Chief Inspector of Fisheries.
