ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
FATAL TRIP WITH HIS FATHER. A Hastings Association message states that Douglas Richmond, aged three years, the son of W. Richmond, the driver of tho fire brigade motor engine, was taken by his father for a trial spin on tho engine yesterday morning. When making a swerve on the road tho child was shot out, and a wheel passed over him, death being instantaneous. DROWNED WHILE WHITEBAITING. A Wanganui message states that Frederick Walter Edward "Ferry, aged twenty, was drowned while whitoba-iting on the Waitotara River yesterday. Tho body has been recovered. AUCKLAND STREET CASUALTIES. Numerous accidents occurred in Auckland on Saturday. William John MacDermott, secretary of the Auckland Alhance, received serious injuries through being knocked down by a- tram. It is stated that Mr MacDermott was proceeding along Queen street, when the wind lifted bis hat across the street. Ho ran out to recover it, not noticing a tiamcar, and ran right into it. Mr received severe injuries* to his head, and is still unconscious. A, M'Matli, a married man, aged fortytwo years, was knocked down by a tram in Queen street, his skull being fractured. Thomas M ! Fadden, aged forty-five years, was knocked down by a motor car in tho city, and was slightly injured. Charles Guthrie, who was driving a team, collided with a motor bus, and received severe cuts. PENSIONER DROWNED. The superintendent of police is advised that an old-ags pensioner named Alex. Nicol, single, was accidentally drowned while fishing off the rocks at Long Point, Ratanui m Saturday. The body has not been recovered. A brother resides at Wairaate.
