ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS

An inquest was held at Kaitangata concerning the death of John Henry Hopper, farm hand. Inch Clutha, whose bodwas found in the Molynoux. The evidence showed that deceased, who was a returned soldier, had suffered from nerves and depression, and had been a victim to insomnia from boyhood. The coroner (Mr Bundle. S.M.) returned a verdict that deceased 'had met his death by drowning, while suffering from mental depression, and added a rider to the effect that the efforts of the willing search party who assisted the police were to be highly commended. The police, as a rule, received scant thanks for _ their efforts in such cares, and the assistance of civilians was deserving of praise.
