SUVA, August 19.

A libel action, brought by turn prominent citizens, Air H. M, Scott, K.C., and Sir Maynard Hedstrom, against the Coimcil of Planters, has occupied' the court for the past four days. It resulted in too jury returning a unanimous verdict _ for £2OO and costs. The jury a rider that it would not give heavier damages, because plaintiffs did not press tor it and also because the time was inopportune.^ Tho libel was contained in an article which was written by the secretary of tbo Council of Planters‘in May last, stating that plaintiffs forced the discontinuance of the local steamer service to servo their own ends. Plaintiffs are members of the Executive and Legislative Councils of the colony, and tho case caused tremendous interest locally. The damages which were awarded _are being given to charity.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
