(7.25 a.m.),. 5,157 tons, M'Donald, for Melbourne. i _ The A. and A. Lino steamer Romeo left Dunedin at 7.30 a.m. to-day for Melbourne to discharge the remainder of her general cargo from New York. The Koiaro has been bar-bound at Invercargill for the past two days. _ She is expected to sail to-day for Dunedin, and -is listed to leave hero on Monday for Bluff and Invercargill. ■ The Wanaka left Auckland last evening for Whangarci to complete loading for Wellington-, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due bore towards the end of next week, and after discharge will undergo survey at Port Chalmers.

The steamer Twickenham arrived at Bluff yesterday afternoon from the Seychelles Islands’ via Newcastle with a fall cargo ,of guano. She is expected to reach Dunedin about August 7 to discharge 700 tons. The vessel will subsequently go to Auckland to complete discharge. , The Kamona is duo, nt Dunedin on Tuesday from Westport and Gxeymonfh via Bluff. She will discharge a part cargo of coal and load general cargo for Westport and Greymouth. The Wa.ikawa left Newcastle on Wednesday night, coal laden, for Wellington. The Palnona. which arrived at Wellington yesterday from Melbourne, is to sail 10-mnrrow for Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is duo hero on Tuesday morning, and is timed in sail on Tuesday afternoon for Bluff kind Melbourne. The steamer Canadian Transporter, of the Canadian Government Merchant Marine, Ltd., has been chartered by the Yamashita Kisen Kogyo Iva.isha, to load coal at Newcastle for San Francisco. With the approach of the opening of the Queensland sugar season three units of the Adelaide S.S. Company’s fleet-—the steamers Milldna, Gaduna, and Morriwa •—have been recommissioned. The new tug for the Melbourne S.S. Company was successfully launched in the middle of June from the yards of Philip and Sons. Ltd., Dartmouth, England. She was named Tooronga. The tug will be one of the most powerful in Australia. She is expected to leave England at the end of July. The Melanesian Mission steamer .Southern Cross is being overhauled and refitted at Auckland. She is expected to sail about the first week in September for the mission stations in the New Hebrides and Solomon Groups, returning to Auckland about the second week in December. The S.S. and A. liner Maliana, which is due at Wellington to-day from Auckland to continue discharge of Liverpool cargo, is later to visit Lyttelton, Port, Chalmers, and Timam. She is expected back at Wellington on August 24 to complete loading, and will sail on August 29 for London via Montevideo and TenorifTe.

The John -is due here on Sunday from Lyttelton, and will sail on Monday for way ports and Wanganui. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Ruapehu left Wellington yesterday afternoon for Timaxu and Lyttelton for Homeward loading. From Lyttelton the vessel is cine back at Wellington on August 8, and will sail from that port on August. 12 for Southampton and London via Panama. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Mararoa arrived at Lyttelton at 10.15 a.m. to-day from Wellington, and mails and passengers connected with the 12.20 p.m. express for the south. NIAGARA LEAVES VANCOUVER, Cable advice received by the Union Company states that the mail steamer Niagara sailed from Vancouver at midnight on Friday last for Auckland and Sydney via Honolulu and Suva. She is duo at Auckland on August 11. ARAWA’S SAILING DATE. , The National Mortgage and Agency Company advise that the Shaw, ■ Savin, and Albion liner Arawa, which is now completing her loading at Wellington, >s to leave that port at daybreak on Wednesday, August 9, for Southampton and London via Montevideo and Teneriffe. OPAWA FROM MONTREAL. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Opawa, with general freight from Montreal and New York, is duo at Auckland on August 1. The vessel will subsequently visit Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne, and Sydney to discharge part cargo. She is due here about August 14. The Opawa will return to New Zealand from Australia to load for England, INCOMING SAN FRANCISCO MAIL, The Union Company has received advice that the R.M.S. Tahiti, en route from San Francisco and Papeete, left Rarotonga at midnight on Sunday last for "Wellington. The vessel is duo at Wellington on Sunday, and will sail next Tuesday afternoon for Sydney. THE WESTMORELAND. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Westmoreland is to leave Auckland to-morrow morning for Wellington to put out cargo from London. The vessel is later to proceed to Lyttelton and Dunedin to complete discharge, and will then load on the New Zealand coast for West of England ports. DEVON HOMEWARD BOUND.. The New Zealand Shipping Company has been advised by cable that the Devon arrived at Las Palmas on the morning of July 23 from Lyttelton, and sailed the same day in continuation of her voyage to London. THE SCHOONER ABEMAMA. Officers of the New South Wales Navigation Department have, made a preliminary survey of the schooner Abmama, which pub in to Sydney on July 14, while en. route from the Clarence River to Bluff. The vessel is reported to ho leaking considerably, and it may be necessary to remove the cargo in order to make a more thorough examination. ? -

LOSS OF FRENCH BARQUE FRAN CPI SHIP STANDING ON EVEN KEEL. Details of (ho loss of the French fivemasted barque Franco reached Noumea on July 17. All hands were saved, ami no one was injured In the wreck. Accordin'! to the statement- of the captain. the Franco went ashore cm a, roof near Ourail Pass, on the west coast, and fifty miles from Noumea, at 9 o’clock on the night of July 12, during thick weather. The captain believed the vessel was fifteen miles from the roofs. The ship rolled heavily during the night. The sails were lowered, and soundings showed.that four out. of the seven holds were full of water. The crew abandoned her at daylight on July 13, landing at Lafoa on July 15. The ship is standing on an even keel, and heavy seas are breaking over her. It is considered she will be a total loss. The Fiance was being towed from Tliio, on the east coast, by the steamer Tao, but lost, the tow of the latter eight days before. She was on her voyage to Poucmbout, on the west coast of New Caledonia, to load 7.500 tons of nickel ore for Europe. The ship was in ballast trim at the time of the disaster. WAIKOUAITI AT THE HEADS. The Union Company’s steamer Waikouaiti arrived off the Heads early tills morning from Newcastle and Sydney via Bluff. As the vessel missed the flood tide she anchored outside the harbor. Sho will come into port at 7.30 a.ra, to-morrow and berth at the Birch street wharf. The Waikouaiti has over 1,000 tons of general cargo and a large quantity of coal for discharge here. The general cargo includes transhipments ex the following steamers : —Marclla, Boita-na, Abbekerk, Eastern, Hallgyn, St. Albans, Aid Mam, Taiyuan, Enoggerra, Wodonga, Tango Mam, Hellenic, Demosthenes, Shimpo Maru, _ Ota-r-ama, and Almkerk. The Waikouaiti will sad about Tuesday for Lyttelton to complete discharge. -She will afterwards load at Lyttelton and Bluff for Sydney.
