PROPOSED UNIVERSITY CLUB

The movement in favor of the establishment of a University Club reached a definite stage at the meeting held last week in the Medical School, King street, when about fifty persons were present. The speakers who took part in the discussion were enthusiastically in favor of the proposal. Dr Carmalt Jones, Dr Hercua, and Dr Thompson pointed out the advantages which such a club would' bring, not only to the members, but to the community at large. Dunedin is a university town, and as ■ such, it shoukl not be without a University Club, where University men and others interested in academic matters might forgather. The absence of such, facilities had long been keenly felt and frequently remarked upon. ’ Satisfactory plans and estimates were placed before the meeting by those who had had the matter in-hand. It was unanimously resolved that such a club should be established, and a committee was set up to report to a further meeting on Tuesday, August 1 on (11 the rules of membership; (2) the amount of support likely to be met with. It is understood that about 150 names have already been handed in, and the 200 aimed at are well in sight.
