FIRES
The City Fire Brigade received a call at 7.47 p.m. yesterday to a fine which l>ad broken out in a house in Maybank street, North-east Valley, owned by Mr A. M. Tyrol!, and occupied by air IV. Badman. The building, which, was badly damaged, is insured hi the Standard Office for £2OO, and tho contents are covered by the Australian Alliance Office to the extent of £IOO. Tho tire started in a_ bedroom, where there had been a fire during the day; but as the occupants were in another part of the house at tho time of the outbreak, it had a good hold before it was noticed. At 11.17 p.m. tho (brigade waa-calied out to Mrs R. Glendining’s property at North-east Valley, where e fire bad broken out in the outbuildings. It is stated that a load of coke had that day been put int» a part of the building, and it as presumed that a portion of it must have been alight when it left the gasworks. The bulk of tho coke was saved, but the shed was practically destroyed. A call was received at 10.55 a.m. to-day to WaiWn street, Roslyn, where a fire had broken out in a four-roomed cottage, owned bv Mr Jones and occupied by Mr iLaworth. A crow from tho Tlosly'n. substation was quickly in attendance. The kitchen was damaged to the extent of about £2O. The houw is insured for £470 in the State Office, but it is understood that ther is no insurance on the contents.
