CONCILIATION PROCEEDINGS. [Pi;r United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, July 26. The motor mechanics’ dispute is before the Conciliation Council. Tho application is made by the Amalgamated Engineering Union. It had been agreed that any agreement should bo applicable to tho whole of tho dominion. The claims of the union depart from, the existing award only to a slight degree. 'The exceptions are in tire hours, and a. demand for a small increase in wages is sought. The union emphasised the importance of apprentices, and maintained that it was timo tho assistants’ clause was abolished. Tho employers’ counter-claims are based on the present award, with ono or two minor alterations. Later it was stated that tho union was prepared to agree to forty-four hours in place of forty, and l it was announced that the union was prepared to agree to the existing rate of wages (2s per hour). There was no chance of accepting a reduction to Is 9d par hour, as asked by the employers.
