JUVENILE FORESTERS

Tho celebration of the thirteenth anniversary of Court Pride of tho Valley, Juvenile Forcstei-s (attached to Court Pride of the Leith, _ A.0.F.), took place on Thursday evening at the Albany Street Hall. Tho hall was completely filled with members, visitors, and parents. Tho president of tho Juvenile Court (Bro. H. H. Gaston) occupied the chair. Tha proceedings opened with the National Anthem. following which the chairman welcomed tho visitors and friends, and gave a short address on the work of the court. Instrumental, vocal, and elocutionary items were rendered by Bros. J. Benfell, O. Payne, M. H. Gaston, Misses A. and K. Helsham-Byer, and Misa Harbrow, all of whom had to submit to encores. At an interval everyone present took part in a community sing, which was carried out with great zest, especially amongst tho young sisters and brothers. At the conclusion of the programme the president of the Juvenile Council of Otago and Southland (P.O.R. Bro. J. Benfell) gave an address on the work of juvenile Forestry in the district, and showed tho fine growth attained last year. Ho then presented prizes, won in several competitions during the year, to Bros. S. Harbrow, J, H. Gaston, C. H. A. Slack, M. H. Gaston, F. Hagarty, A. Grass, J. Swan, G. H. Dale, (E. S. Swete, and 1L A. Buell, tho lastnamed securing the silver medal donated by Mr J. Swan. The special prize donated by the secretary (Bro. J. Iv Macfie) was handed to Bro. A. Leckie for services as assistant secretary for two years. The championship cup and medal presented by Bro. Edwin Brown was won by Bro. A. E. Campbell, who secured the largest number of new members, the same brother also winning a watch from the council. Another watch was won by Bro. A. Leckie, and a silver medal went to Bro. S. Harbrow for obtaining new members. P.C.R. certificates and badges .were presented to P. Bros. G. Harbrow and W. Hope, jun. All the prize-winners returned thanks for their prizes. A deputation from tho 1.0.0. F., a sister society, consisting of D.D.G.M. Bro. J. Skinner, P.G.s Bros. C. Bolton and A. E. Wilkinson, were welcomed, and in addressing the audience, Bro. Skinner spoke of the good work done by friendly societies, and, on behalf of the T10.0.JP., extended congratulations and good wishes to the juvenile Foresters. At the conclusion of his address Bro. Skinner and Ms colleagues were given musical honors. Following supper a dance was held until an early hour next morning, to music capably supplied by Mr B, N/wlalfds.
